Long time since I wrote a book report! Sorry about that....so much going on in our world....We sold our old house that had "sink hole" problems for quite a few years and moved down the road to a more stable area. Big doings for sure. We closed on the sale on a Friday and closed on the purchace on the following Monday! Weeks of packing up and then unpacking, sure can wear you out!
The day after the move, I had a radio interview on WMNF in Tampa and 4 days later we had thge big show at the Palladium theater here in St. Pete.
The Greatest Acoustic Blues Show on Earth, was a great success! We had a crowd of over 400 fans and a large time was had by all. I opened the show and then was The Master of Ceremonies. Jimmy 'Duck' Holmes from Bentonia Mississippi, was next up and he amazed the crowd with his unique style, learned from Jack Owens who was a contemporary of Skip James. Jimmy is the last of the locals continuing this wierd tradition of Bentonia Blues.
After the break, Paul Geremia took the stage with his 6 and 12 string guitars, harmonicas and suitcase full of original and traditional blues that took us all on a journey such as only Paul could! He is and has always been the most amazing player I know.
Rory Block went on last and played and sang her heart out. She has been a leading exponenant of the Delta Blues since she was a young girl, growing up in Grenwich Village, NY. Rory who actually knew and played with everyone from Son House to Mississippi John Hurt, back in the day put on what could only be called a stunning performance! The audience did not want to let her go, but the incredible almost 3 hour show had to come to come to its end, leaving a very satisfied crowd headed for the merchandise table on their way out.
Plans are already in the works for next years line up for The Greatest Acoustic Blues Show on Earth II....A new St. Petersburg tradition is in the works and we thank The Palladium Theater & all that made the show possible.
Winter is finally over in old St. Pete and my "Spring Training" gigs are winding down...Suwannee Spring Fest next weekend and then off to MERLEFEST.....Where does the time go??
Hope to see you all out on the trail somewhere. It looks like a great season coming up and Nancy and I are looking forward to hitting the road, one more time....
Bye For Now,
