Happy Mother's Day to all

Been out on the road now for 3-4 weeks and all is well. Merlefest was the best yet. Had great crowds at "The Greatest Acoustic Blues Show on Earth". David Jascob-Strain, Paul Asbell, Rory Block, Robert Jones, Doc Watson, Hot Tuna, Happy Traum and Myself all loved it...

The surprise hit, was no surprise to me. I knew The Rev.Robert Jones would 'tear it up', and he surely did. I had never seen such an instantaneous standing ovation...Would love to see him cast his spell with his congregation in Detroit. It was quite magical and the crowd ate it up. Well done Robert, I knew you would be a hit!

I enjoyed being the 'impresario' as well as playing for the 'Festers'. I used my Kay Kraft guitar which John Arnold tweaked up the day before and it sounded unbelievable. Had a nice visit with The Arnolds and left my mahogany Nick Lucas with John to be refretted.

Nancy and Maureen flew up from Florida on Friday and we had a good time. Hadn't seen 'the girls' since Monday! Nancy has only a few more days teaching school before her Summer vacation. She will join me June 6th in NY.

Sorry we missed John Prine who performed on Thursday. I was in nearby Lenoir performing for a benefit for the James Harper School of Music. Had a full day there beginning with a luncheon, a tv taping, a concert and dinner after the show. Nice bunch of folks down there I had a swell time and was sure glad that they invited me

The Lee Brothers were a big hit on The Watson Stage. It's amazing how fast the 'Sacred Steel' music has swept the nation. I first heard it 20 years ago at the Florida Folk Festival which always featured the music of local churches. Now it's everywhere....very cool.

Picked up my Nick Lucas which now sounds and plays better than ever. Thanks John, you're the best! Made my way up the mountains thru West Virginia to The Fur Peace Ranch.

We had a great weekend at 'the Ranch'. Great to hang out with Patrick Sweany, he gets better and better. I recommend you pickers take a session with him next year. Patrick who taught beginners will be teaching intermediate finger pickers next year.

Jorma played a very cool guitar piece he composed for his Mom & Dad, opening the Saturday night concert which featured Blue Highway and Pete Hutlinger. Quite a show... We all had a ball and I look forward to my next session at The Ranch. If you haven't been there, do check it out!

Left Pomeroy Ohio and began meandering the blue highways into WV. My gig at the Blue Moose Cafe in Morgantown was cool. I love that little club. Picked some with the owner Gary and just enjoyed the heck out of my visit.

On the way to Petersburg, I picked up an acoustic blues radio show from Frostburg Md. They announced that my old Pal, Orrin Star was doing a show that night. I called the station and told Chuck what a cool show he had and that I knew Orrin when he was a kid at summer camp. After I hung up, I heard some Rev.Davis and then some me on the radio....very cool. Will be sending Chuck some new PegLEG cds this week.

So kids, that's about it for now. I'm camped at a KOA campground up around Harpers Ferry WV. Got cable tv and wi-fi internet service at my campsite....I love this country...

Bye For now
