Heading to Europe

Well, we have been overseas for two weeks! Had a great time in Colorado, before heading East, finishing up the tour, visiting Family and getting ready to head to Europe....

We left "The Bus" with our good friends, Red and Sue in Ohio, flew from Cincinnati to Chicago and caught the morning flight direct to London. Nice to arrive in London at 10:30 at night, tired and ready to go to sleep! We were booked into the YOTEL at Heathrow airport, which was very cool. A small room, about the size of our motor-home, we were delighted to go right to sleep after the long flight.

Up by 10:30 in the morning, we bussed our way over to Stansted Airport, where we boarded our plane to Billund Airport in Denmark, where we were met by the Festival shuttle and taken to TONDER, a picturesque Danish town which has hosted the TONDER FOLK FESTIVAL for 36 years!

The hotel was right in the town center and was a short walk to the festival site and all of the activities. We had lots of friends at our hotel and got to enjoy our time with Ron Kavina, Tim O'Brian, Arlo Guthrie and Kevin Welch.

I was looking forward to hearing Pokey LaFarge and the South Street Three and was not disappointed. These young musicians from St. Louis became festival favorites after there first concert which was just wonderful! Pokey, the front man was a very entertaining fellow who crooned and shouted his way through a repertoire of "old time" jazz and "goodtime songs" as well as a bunch of originals which were just as good! Some of you may have heard and seen them at this years NEWPORT FOLK FESTIVAL.

The weather was really pretty good for Tonder, which is often not so. We had a little rain and lots of sunshine as well, every day. Bicycles were offered to musicians and Nancy had a great time riding around the town every day!

On the Monday after the festival, we took a train to Copenhagen, a city neither of us had ever visited. Nancy had arranged for 3 nights at The Marriot Hotel thru priceline, and we saved a bundle. Copenhagen is a very expensive city! One night we had pizza and cokes and it the bill came to over $50 !

We did a few bus tours and wore our feet off walking around the city, visiting The Tivoli Gardens, and just enjoying our three days off.

The plane ride to Trondheim, Norway was less then an hour long and we were excited to get there. We were picked up at the airport and driven 4 minutes to the Hotel in HELL, Norway! Very convenient.

You should have seen my face when I saw the car...My image was shrink wrapped full size, on both sides of the car supplied by the festival sponsor, Toyota! We will post photos when we get home....I hadn't smiled so much since my last wedding night!

Our Pals, John & Marla Hammond, Michael Roach,Ramblin' Jack Elliot and Louisiana Red, were all there and a big time was had by all. We made a lot of new friends and fans and had a great time. Let me tell you, they served a "hell of a breakfast there too!"

We are now in Oslo, staying with friends and again enjoying beautiful weather! Which again is quite unusual! I have two shows this week in the area and do look forward to them.

I do promise to write again from The UK and keep you updated...

Bye For Now,

The Book & Mrs. Book

PS. "Shorty", My Lucas Brunner (fold up guitar) has amazed and delighted musicians and fans everywhere I have been! I only hope that I have as well!
