Book Reports

July 18, 2006

Can't believe It's been so many days, miles and cities since I last wrote a "Book Report" We are 'camped out' in Santa Cruz, California. Found cool weather at last!

Denver was great....almost had more friends than days to visit with them...The gigs were fine, nice weather too. Got to discus 'THE FILM' with my film maker Preston Poe.....could complete BOOK'S FILM, by Fall of 2007....

Denver was quite cool and rainy which was a welcome relief and surprise. As we headed West thru Vale and Grand Junction, the landscapes were breathtaking. Just when you think that you have seen the best, a new wonder is around the bend. The Glenwood Canyon and the Rifle Gap were especially cool...Colorado Canyons by Fruita was another eye opener as we entered into Utah. And it just kept getting better as we headed West. The Green River Canyon was a great place to have lunch and watch the kyakers do their stuff. And the red rock mountains were a constant chalenge for our 'home on wheels'. Looking back behind us was the best way too see how high we had climbed on the twisting mountain roads. Finally we enterd into the Fishlake National Forest. at almost 12,000 foot elevation .

After a tremendous drive, we did make it to Las Vegas for a quick overnight, way too hot 115 in the shade! We didn't stay long and California was a great relief although the temperatures did start to climb as soon as we got there!

Good gig in San Diego, but no air conditioning hurt our draw. John Renborn has been on the same West Coast tour and we were either the night before him or the night after him...sorry we didn't get to see him, he's a terrific player and an interesting 'bloke'. After our Covina show we raced up I-5 and in one day we drove out of the heat and were glad to be camped in view of the Pacific Ocean.
