Summer is Over

Summer is over, but I'm not so sure about that! Plenty of hot days in NC, TN, AR, and KY. Enjoyed my first gigs back in the USA in Raleigh, Union Grove and Johnson City. Plenty of familiar faces in the audience and some new ones too. Got to hang out some with Old Pals (not that old), play some cool old guitars and just relax.

Cool new gig for me in Decatur, GA. Eddie's Attic was fantastic! Did a guitar workshop in the afternoon and had some fine pickers sign up for that. The concert that evening was well attended, the sound was terrific and a large time was had by all. Including me! I look forward to my next visit there for sure!

Made my way thru Alabama to Tunica MS. where I played a little poker at Sam's Town, before picking up Nancy in Memphis. We celebrated my 64th Birthday in Tunica before heading South to Helena AR. The AB&HF will always the be The King Biscuit Fest to most of us even though they can't call it that anymore....

It was plenty hot all weekend but we managed. The new A/C in 'The Bus' worked hard and kept us cool. Highlight of the Fest for me was hearing Jimmie 'Duck' Holmes, from Bentonia MS. (birthplace of Skip James). Duck was a neighbor of the late Jack Owens, who played guitar in the same unique style that Skip did. And he was great...Duck is in his 60's, sang great and played real strong delta blues guitar! Hopefully he will begin touring North and y'all will get a chance to enjoy this fantastic Blues man.

Our trip to the deep South came to an end, Nancy flew home and I started North. I'm camped in Bowling Green, KY, waiting for the Yankee-Indian playoff game to begin. Since I got XM Radio, I have become a baseball fan...a NY Yankee Fan and I find it very difficult...I can't take the pressure of being a fan. Next season I'm going to put a block on the baseball stations!

Next stop THE FUR PEACE RANCH, for The Rev. Gary Davis Weekend. I wish Marie Knight was going to be there. Remember to check out her tribute cd with Larry Cambell that I mentioned in the last Book Report. You won't be dissapointed!

Bye For Now. Y'all take care now.
