The Winter Season

Settling in here at home and it feels good. Warm weather in December is always a treat. Nancy is doing fine and we are enjoying the start of 'The Winter Season'.

It was a good year and it was a bad year. We lost Henry Townsend, Etta Baker, and my dear friend Robert Lockwood. The list grows shorter. Honeyboy Edwards and Pinetop Perkins are now the last of the 'old timers'. Get out and hear them play if you get the chance.

Been enjoying playing my guitars that didn't make the last road trip. My 1933 Washburn (like a Martin OM18) has been a real treat. It has the best neck of all my guitars. A deep V shape right down to the first fret and an incredible even sound with a fantastic bass. It is also a pleasure to play. It has an ebony fingerboard and a delicate ebony bridge. I just might take it on the road in the Spring!

Also digging my maple bodied Nick Lucas which has always been my favorite guitar. I believe I have owned that guitar for about 15 years. Almost a record for me...

Looking ahead, 2007 should be quite a year. I will be at THE FUR PEACE RANCH for three sessions of teaching and will be appearing at MERLEFEST in April and The ARKANSAS BLUES & HERITAGE FESTIVAL in October. (formerly known as the King Biscuit Blues Festival)

At this time, we have over 20 bookings on the calender. It's always interesting to see how the tour develops and the direction it takes. Starting to look like we will not be making the big cross country trip this year. The last three Summers did carry us all the way to the West Coast and it was good but there is something tempting about New England and the Smokey Mountains in July and August.

If you have enjoyed digging my late Brother-In-Law, ROCK BOTTOM'S music do go to and check out the new double cd compilation, SNAKE DANCIN' THRU GOD'S BARNYARD. This cd is a greatest hits collection with some never released material and is a 'knockout'. It is getting heavy play on XM Radio's BLUESVILLE Show and is currently #6 on their play list! I'm featured playing guitar on a few tracks!

Hope you all have a Happy and Merry time this Holliday Season and I'll be keeping in touch. Thanks for being there.....

Bye For Now,
