Blues Review

This is probably the best way to hear master finger picker Roy Book Binder-in a live performance, with his reminiscences and stories linking all of the individual songs together into a single cohesive set piece. Between and even within some of the songs, we hear amusing anecdotes about some of his personal and professional relationships-with his mentor, Rev. Gary Davis, with Carolina bluesman, Pink Anderson, and with his friend and colleague, Jorma Kaukonen (who also plays guitar on a few tracks). His repertoire here concentrates on covers of his favorite pre-war pickers, with a heavy emphasis on Rev. Gary Davis, plus several originals that are firmly within that tradition. Book Binder is one of the finest blues finger pickers active today. This is music for a lazy Saturday afternoon - nothing to intense, just an hours worth of well- played music and well-told stories that you can close your eyes and get lost in.
